Here is our finished video, unfortunately YouTube won't allows us to post it to YouTube because of copyright and therefore we can't put it onto the website.

CD Cover

This is the inside part, obviously this will be folded in the middle and the actual CD will be on the right side. We chose this image because we all liked it but didn't think it was a strong enough image to be the outside cover, but it works well as the inside because as soon as you open it you will be hit with the white, which works well as a background colour.










This is the outside part. As you can see we have used the same image as our website to try and create a sense of continuety and also it fits very well to being a cd cover. Due to the guitar, with the rock connatations and the colour itself, which is a direct link to the band

Audience Feedback

This is our audience feedback we got from our music video. Thank you for the people involved, it was very helpful and gave us a clear indication of what we could have done to change things to improve.
Here it is.

Video - first cut

This is the first full cut of our music video. There are several parts which I think could be changed /improved so any feedback would be much apreciated, so tell us about what you liked or disliked and in general how you feel it could be improved.

Website Improvements

Basically all that has changed from the original designed is mainly the background which has gone from a blood red colour to a softer orange colour. This is because the red was a bit too strong and overpowered some elements but now the orange helps with a more contemporary feel. Also the font has changed form a gothic font to a more contemporary font as this is more of what the Red Hot Chili Peppers are like as a band. Also with this font all texts can be the same therfore giving a chique look to the website. Below are some pictures of what it looks like now.

Snorricam In Action

As stated earlier, we were going to do some test shots using the snorricam, so here it is. I put the snorricam on and walked about school, much to the amazement of the main school and got some interesting footage. We tried to show what it might look like in the actual thing by adding different shot types and the music. But this is just a ruff idea of what it would look like.

Storyboards

We have now started to film our music video, and theses are the storyboards that me and Matt Tanner drew to help us with the narrative.













If you can't tell what is going on, the main character is meant to be the person who sang the song 'Fortune Faded' and he wastes his 'fortune.' By the end of the song he regrets what he has done and sits in reflection of his actions. Also it's meant to have a 'spaced out' feel to it because he has taken something. We going to try and portray this by using the snorricam, because it lends itself very well to that type of situation.

Self Assessment

Planning and Research

Research: We feel that our research into similar products is borderline between level four and three. We think this because we have many posts on the background of our music video. This includes research into similar videos of the same genre, and other videos from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. We also looked at different director styles in the form of advertisements and different ideas from people who like ourselves made a music video and posted it for us to see.

Organisation: Unfortunately this would have to be a low level, based on the blog alone. We have got the work but it isn't on the blog.

Shot lists etc: Again a lower level because not much is currently on the blog. We have the put storyboards on but haven't got around to scanning and putting shot lists and other planning material on yet.

Presentation: We think that presentation wise it is in level four. This is because we took great care in drawing the storyboards, also the previous posts on the blog are all matching to create a sense of continuity.

Use of digital technology: This is on the borderline of level three/four. We have tried to incorporate many aspects of the digital technology available to us, to enhance the aesthetics of the blog. So we have used a variety of different posts to try and keep it fresh and interesting to read.

Website

Here are some screenshots of some of the main web pages. They are not final for instance the start page will probably have a different picture as its background and also the photos will need to be added to the photo section and the same with the videos. However the basic background and formation of things are done so this should give good sense of what the website will look like at the end. We have decided to make our own snorricam after looking into it. I have been given the job of lead designer and creator, so here is my initial sketch I went of.
I managed to find on the Internet a picture of a snorricam that looks quite similar to this one. So I modified the image to my own needs and drew this to show people what I was on about



After that I got the wood required and started to create the snorricam


I cut all the wood separately and then put it together afterwards.




I encountered a prblem here because I drilled the holes on the wrong side of the straight piece of wood. Because of this I then had to re-drill some of the holes to match my mistake.


The many holes around the outside was done intentionally, so that I could move the arms and ajust the angle and hight of the snorricam to suit all needs.


This is the final peice, on the wood side of things. As you can see it does look like a partially created snorricam.



I had initially thought about using string or some kind of straps to hold the board to the body, but I came up with the idea of undoing the straps of a normal bag and passing them through the pre cut holes. This way it is easier to undo, more comfortable, easier to carry, my bag will still be usable afterwards and I can also carry anything I need for filming in the bag itself.




The main problem however was going to be attaching the camera to the end, without it wobbling. My first idea was going to be, placing a flate plate on the end that the camera could be screwed directly into. However the problem with this is that I wouldn't be able to move the arms without pointing the camera at the ceiling, because I wouldn't be able to ajust the camera's positioning.


But I asked Mr M and he allowed us to use a broken tripod to try and use to conect to the end so that the camera could be directly attached to that. After a quick trip to the design technology department, we managed to cut the end of and attach the tripod head and neck to the bottom peice of the wood using some jubilee clips.




So that is our snorricam, we will soon be posting some footage of the snorricam in action.

As well as are main project (the music video) we have to do two auxiliary tasks that link into it. One of which being a magazine advert for the band, hence the test shots of the light graffiti on the guitar, further down the blog. The other being a website for the band. We have started to design some of the aspects that we will incorporate into the finished product, mainly in the form of layout and structure. To do this we looked at a cross section of different styles of music and artists, and their websites.

We looked at these artists and found out that the same layout is kept throughout, with some exceptions

Most of the time they use a bar along the top with links to other aspects of the website. These include videos, images, tour dates and normally some form of fan club where people can register and keep track of whoever it is they are following. So we intend to keep the conventional style of website structure and include some of these aspects into our own work.
Also these websites include a lot of imagery rather than text, so that is also we will try and imitate in our website.

So we are thinking about using the Snorri cam. We think this will be a really good technique and will give our music video a new dimension and will link in with our intended dreamlike feel we are trying to create. This video was just something I found when I was reasearching how we could create this technique ourselves. God bless youtube.

SnorriCam Idea

James remembered that on 'That Mitchell and Webb Look' they use something called a SnorriCam in one of sketches. He thought it would look cool in our video so we investigated further. Mick Jagger's song 'God Gave Me Everything I Want' uses this as the concept in its video and maybe we can incorporate there ideas into ours. Here is the video.




The differcult bit is going to build the SnorriCam which is attached to the body of the thing its following. Therefore will are going to be doing some test shots to see if it is actually possible to do at our budget.

Audience Research

This question is to help us with some of the decisions we are facing in the production stage of our music video. Please leave a comment underneath telling us your answer.

Should a rock video contain the conventions and themes of the genre or do you think it is acceptable to only use certain aspects?

Possible DVD/CD Cover

We tried a few different camera positions to start with and changed the lighting to best suit the picture until we found one we liked near the end and when took several pictures so that we could decide later if they are any good and which one looks best, also thanks to Dan Beetham who educated us in how the work the lights.

Then here are some later shots when we found the perfect lighting and camera angle with the sunset background;

As you can see we decided with a guitar and amp with graphitti light coming off it which gives a good effect however choosing one will be hard so any suggestions on which one you like most will be appreciated.

We think that 'Fortune Faded' in the bottom left hand corner of these later pictures would be the best place to put it and also the effect of the graphitti light with correspond with our website for the band.

Light Graphitti Testing

Today we did our own light graphitti to see how it works, how effective and easily it can be done and also how far we could take it at a beginner level.

We started firstly in a dark room which was pitch black, therefore the only thing you could see was the light and no background.















Once we found out how to do it we did some designs that we might actually do for our dvd cover and website, still in the pitch black.


We were thinking of having multi-colours such as red, orange and white that would be in the shape of musical notes and soundwaves which would be coming off an electrical guitar. To do this though we needed to try and test light graphitti in dark room but not in pitch black so therefore the background and pictures would still be there eg the guitar.







The only problem with this is if you stay in one place for too long while moving the light around, you become part of the picture however in a ghost effect. Therefore we need to move around alot in the real photos to not be as clear or in the photos. However these pictures have shwon that we can do it in a darkened room and it is quite effective.
